Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: ravines and creeks north and south of Highway 160, 4 to 5 mi west of Grenola. All 5 members present. "Co-type locality" designated as cuts on U.S. Highway 40, southwest of Manhattan, Riley Co., KS. Named from town of Grenola, Elk Co., KS (Condra and Busby, 1933).
