SUBGROUP STATUS (alphabetical) --all in MO: Blackjack Creek Limestone, Excello Shale, Higginsville Limestone, Little Osage Formation.

Middle Pennsylvanian (Desmoinesian)*


Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures at Fort Scott, Bourbon Co., eastern KS (Swallow, 1866).
Type exposure: northeast of Fort Scott in the cement plant quarry, in NE/4 sec. 19, T. 25 S., R. 25 E., Bourbon Co., eastern KS (Jewett, 1941).
