Type section: on slopes of Flagstaff Peak, center sec. 13, T. 20 S., R. 5 E., [Flagstaff Peak 7.5-min quadrangle], Sanpete Co., Wasatch Plateau, central eastern UT (La Rocque, 1960).
Named for fact it is prominent in Flagstaff Peak, Wasatch Plateau, central eastern UT (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 896).
