Named from Fayette Co., southern TX (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
Section exposed at Lipan Hills, Atascosa Co., southern TX, as described by Dumble in his final [1924] description, is regarded as type section (Plummer, 1933; US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
