Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: exposures in vicinity of Etchegoin Ranch, 20 mi northwest of Coalinga, in NW/4 sec. 1, T. 19 S., R. 15 E., Fresno Co., CA. Named from Etchegoin Ranch (Anderson, 1905. See also Arnold and Anderson, 1910; Dibblee, 1973).
Reference section: exposures north of Reef Ridge, between Big Tar and Garza Creeks, Garza Peak quadrangle, 3 to 5 mi southeast of Avenal, southern CA (Dibblee, 1973).
