Type locality: south of Sabana Grande, [Sabana Grande quadrangle], southwestern Puerto Rico (Volckman, 1984).
Named from Quebrada de El Rayo, a small intermittent stream, 2.5 km south of Sabana Grande, Sabana Grande quadrangle, southwestern Puerto Rico (Slodowski, 1958; see Volckman, 1984).
