Type section: spur on north side of U.S. Highway 6, 0.5 mi northeast of bridge over French Creek, in sec. 16, T. 5 N., R. 87 W., [Shoshone 7.5-min quadrangle], Garfield Co., central northwestern CO. Named from Dead Horse Creek which enters Glenwood Canyon from northwest near northeast corner sec. 30, T. 5 S., R. 87 W., [Shoshone 7.5-min quadrangle], Garfield Co., central northwestern CO (Bass and Northrop, 1953).
