Named for fact it is the mountain-forming series of Datil Mountains, [Alamocita Creek Valley], [Catron and] Socorro Cos., southwestern NM (Winchester, 1920).
Winchester's section measured at the north end of Bear Mountains, in secs. 4, 5, 8, and 9, T. 1 N., R. 4 W., Socorro Co., southwestern NM (US geologic names lexicon, USGS Bull. 1200).
