Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: 1 to 2 mi east of Cyrene and Edgewood, Pike Co., northeastern MO. Named from exposures at Cyrene, Pike Co., MO (Savage, 1913).
Type section stated to be in SW/4 NW/4 sec. 8, T. 52 N., R. 1 W., Cyrene 7.5-min quadrangle, Pike Co., northeastern MO (Thompson and Satterfield, 1975).
Reference section: roadcut on business route U.S. Highway 54, 0.25 mi east of junction with U.S. Highway 61 bypass, north of the north edge of Bowling Green, NW/4 NW/4 sec. 24, T. 53 N., R. 3 W., Bowling Green 7.5-min quadrangle, Pike Co., MO (Thompson and Satterfield, 1975; Amsden, 1986).
