Type locality: on northwest side of Oscura Mountains, west slope of range, in eastern part SE/4 sec. 36, T. 5 S., R. 5 E., [approx. Lat. 33 deg. 49 min. 33 sec. N., Long. 106 deg. 22 min. 15 sec. W., Garden Spring Canyon 7.5-min quadrangle], Socorro Co., central NM. Named from Council Spring, near top of Oscura Mountains, 5 mi south of north end of mountains, Socorro Co., central NM (Thompson, 1942).
