Named from exposures in Atlantic Coast Line RR cut south of Coosawhatchie, Jasper Co., eastern SC. Also exposed at Dawsons Landing on Coosawhatchie River (Heron and others, 1965).
Reference section (subsurface): depth-interval +11 to -23 m, Harris No. 1 core W-13769, in SW/4 SE/4 sec. 78, T. 6 S., R. 25 E., Clay Co., FL (Scott, 1988).
