Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Chellis mine which is situated near contact of the limestone and underlying Aura Formation on north slope of White Rock Canyon, Bull Run 15-min quadrangle, Elko Co., northeastern NV. Forms sinuous band trending east-west across Bull Run Mountains. Continuity of exposure partially disrupted by faulting, which offsets formation (Decker, 1962).
