Named from exposures near Catlin shaft of the Croesus Mine in New York Canyon, [in W/2 sec. 35, T. 19 N., R. 53 E., approx. Lat. 39 deg. 28 min. 28 sec. N., Long. 115 deg. 58 min. 45 sec. W., northwestern corner Pinto Summit 15-min quadrangle, Eureka Co.], central NV (Nolan and others, 1956).
