Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures near village of Carwood (Bridgeport), 4.75 mi southeast of Borden, in NW/4 NW/4 sec. 4, T. 1 S., R. 6 E., Clark Co., southeastern IN. Any of the numerous exposures in Clark Co. might serve as a "type" section, the best one being along Borden-Martinsburg Road, 0.5 mi southwest of Borden (Stockdale, 1931).
