Named from Buda, [approx. 15 mi southwest of Austin, Buda 7.5-min quadrangle], Hays Co., southeastern TX (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
Type locality stated to be on Shoal Creek at Austin, TX (Adkins, 1933).
[Reference section, 450+ mi west of Buda, TX, southwest of Van Horn, TX, <1 mi east of International border with Chihuahua, Mexico]: near Love Triangulation Station, Lat. 30 deg. 48 min. 35 sec. N., Long. 105 deg. 12 min. 16 sec. W., UTM Zone 13, 480,447 m E.; 3,408,346 m N., Eagle Mountains SW 7.5-min quadrangle [1972 ed.], Hudspeth Co., southwestern TX (Reaser and Robinson, 2002).
