Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures along Bois d'Arc Creek, in sec. 4, T. 2 N., R. 6 E., Pontotoc Co., OK (Reeds, 1911, 1926).
Type locality of Reeds (1926) [corrected]: on north bank of Bois d'Arc Creek, in sec. 11, T. 2 N., R. 6 E. Bois d'Arc Creek is not present in sec. 4 (Amsden, 1957).
Type section: in sec. 4, T. 2 N., R. 6 E., starting at top of Cedar Hill and extending north along banks of Chimneyhill Creek (Amsden, 1957).
