Type section: adjacent to site of now defunct Hunter's Store in SW/4 SW/4 sec. 29, T. 13 W., R. 24 N., San Juan Co., northwestern NM. Origin of name not stated by authors, but probably named from Bisti oil field of San Juan basin, east-central San Juan Co., or for Bisti Trading Post at Lat. 36 deg. 16 min. N., Long. 108 deg. 15 min. W. (Hunt and Lucas, 1992).
