Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: exposures in Biederman Bluff face on northwest side of Yukon River, 6.4 km northwest of mouth of Kandik River, in NW/4 sec. 32, T. 7 N., R. 25 E., Charley River B-4 quadrangle (scale 1:63,360), AK (Brabb, 1969).
Named after Adolph Biederman, who carried mail by dog sled along the Yukon River to mining camps between Eagle and Circle area between 1910 and 1930 and who had once lived with his family at foot of bluff (E.E. Brabb, personal commun. to R.W. Kopf, GNC, 3/26/1968; see also USGS Prof. Paper 567, p. 129 for origin of name).
Reference section: 0.25 mi downstream from mouth of Glenn Creek to 1 mi southeast of benchmark 3122 on Kathul Mountain (Brabb, 1969).
