Type locality: about 8 mi below Lower Peach Tree on left bank of Alabama River, [in SE/4 sec. 36, T. 10 N., R. 7 E., Hybart 7.5-min quadrangle], Monroe Co., southwestern AL (see Toulmin, 1977, Geol. Survey Alabama Mon. 13, p. 105-106).
Named from exposures at Bells Landing, on Alabama River, in Monroe Co., southwestern AL (US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
