Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Bell Canyon, a gorge that drains eastward from Rader Ridge to old route of U.S. Highway 62, where it joins Lamar Canyon, Culberson Co., TX. Crops out in broad belt between crest of Delaware Mountains and Gypsum Plain on the east; lower part extends into Guadalupe Mountains, or into reef zone at margin of Delaware basin (King, 1942; 1948 [1949]).
