Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: along Smith River between Firestone and North Bassett in Martinsville West and Bassett quadrangles; on both sides of river along VA Highway 57 between Rock Run and Blackberry Creek, Henry Co., VA. Named from exposures at Bassett (Conley and Henika, 1973).


AAPG geologic province:

Piedmont-Blue Ridge province
