Named from only known occurrence in Bannock Range, southeastern Idaho (Anderson, 1928).
[Principal reference section] (Bannock Volcanic Member): on west slopes of Chinks Peak, about 4 mi east-southeast of Pocatello, in secs. 32 and 33, T. 6 S., R. 35 E., [Bannock Co.], ID (Crittenden and others, 1971).
