Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Bandera, on the Marmaton River, Bourbon Co., KS, near which it is quarried (Adams, 1903).
Type locality: Bandera Station, in sec. 29, T. 25 S., R. 23 E., Bourbon Co., southeastern KS (Jewett, 1941).
"Reference section": well exposed in ravine, below the Amoret and above Coal City limestones, in NW/4 sec. 26, T. 75 N., R. 26 W., Madison Co., southwestern IA (Hershey and others, 1960).
