Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Notable exposures in canyons in vicinity of Battleship Rock, Jemez Mountains, in T. 19 N., R. 1 E., Sandoval Co., NM (Kelley and others, 1961).
Named from Banco Bonito, the steep slope forming the south margin of the flow in central part of Jemez Springs 7.5-min quadrangle, [Sandoval Co.], north-central NM (Bailey and others, 1969).
