Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from exposures in and north of Auburn, Lee Co., east-central AL. (Bentley and Neathery, 1970).
Fresh exposures occur on U.S. Highway 280, 1 mi north of Pepperell, and below Opelika Dam, 2 mi northeast of Opelika, Lee Co. (Bentley and others, 1971).
