Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Named from Arlington Heights, Plumas Co., northern CA, which is composed of the formation, and where middle member is well exposed (Diller, 1892; US geologic names lexicons, USGS Bull. 896, 1200).
Principal reference locality: Arlington Heights, extending northeast toward Hough Creek to 4,000 ft elevation, in secs. 4 and 5, T. 25 N., R. 10 E., Greenville 15-min quadrangle, [Plumas Co.], northern CA (Harwood, 1992).
