Named from Arcturus mining claim on which unit occurs [in NW/4 SW/4 NE/4 sec. 15, T. 16 N., R. 62 E.], Ely quadrangle, White Pine Co., eastern NV (Lawson, 1906; Spencer, 1917).
Reference sections: Rib Hill, in sec. 21, T. 16 N., R. 62 E., White Pine Co., NV; and Moorman Ranch, in secs. 7 and 8, T. 17 N., R. 59 E., White Pine Co., NV (Bissell, 1962).
