Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Stratotype: exposed in a roadcut along Farm Road 2581, approx. 4.1 mi (6.6 km) south of intersection of Farm Road 2581 and TX Highway 25, immediately east of Archer City, central Archer Co., TX. Named from the sandstone-supported cuestas that occur near Archer City (Hentz, 1988).
