Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: Queen Creek Canyon and Oak Flat, in sec. 36, T. 1 S., R. 12 E., and in secs. 28, 29, 30, and 31, T. 1 S., R. 13 E., Superior 7.5-min quadrangle, Pinal Co., AZ. Named from Apache Leap, a prominent west-facing cliff that trends southward through central part of Superior 7.5-min quadrangle (Peterson, 1969).
