Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type locality: in secs. 13 and 24, T. 2 S., R. 3 E., southern part of Park City West 7.5-min quadrangle, Summit Co., northeastern UT (GNC index card files).
Named from Ankareh Ridge, Park City district, Summit Co., northeastern UT, on which it attains its fullest and most characteristic development within the district. Ankareh is the Uinta Ute word for red (Boutwell, 1907).
