Type section: 2 to 3 mi west-southwest of Palmdale, in SW/4 sec. 28, sec. 29, and N/2 sec. 33, T. 6 N., R. 12 W., Ritter Ridge 7.5-min quadrangle, Los Angeles Co., southern CA (Dibblee, 1967).
Named from exposures in Anaverde Valley, [Palmdale 7.5-min quadrangle (1937 ed.), Los Angeles Co.], southern CA. Occurs in trough of San Andreas Rift Zone btw. Palmdale and Elizabeth Lake, southern CA (Wallace, 1949).
