Type area: Nugget Canyon, south of Mogul Fault, SW/4 Mammoth 15-min quadrangle [in T. 10 S., R. 16 E.], Pinal Co., south-central AZ. Named from nearby American Flag Spring, a well-known landmark, in sec. 21, T. 10 S., R. 16 E., Mammoth quadrangle, Pinal Co., south-central AZ (Creasey, 1967).
