Presumably named from Almond stage station near Point of Rocks, in SW/4 sec. 27, T. 20 N., R. 101 W., Sweetwater Co., southwestern WY (Gill and others, 1970).
Reference sections: (1) in SW/4 SE/4 SW/4 and SW/4 NE/4 sec. 12, T. 22 N., R. 85 W., Carbon Co., southwestern WY; (2) in SE/4 SW/4 sec. 3, T. 20 N., R. 85 W., Carbon Co., southwestern WY (Gill and others, 1970).
