Type locality: roadcuts on U.S. Interstate Highway I-10, 1.6 km west of intersection with U.S. Highway 290, Kimble Co., TX. Named from exposures in bed of Allen Creek, on Allen Ranch, east of U.S. Highway 83, Kimble Co., TX (Rose, 1972).
