Type locality: exposures on Aiken Gulch, tributary of Middle Fork of Cottonwood Creek, approx. 3.2 km south of Roaring River and along Roaring River, in secs. 32, 33, 34, and 35, T. 30 N., R. 7 W., [Ono 15-min quadrangle], Shasta Co., CA. Named from Aiken Gulch (Dailey, 1973).
