Summary:

Named for Aiken Gulch. Type locality is exposures in Aiken Gulch, tributary to Cottonwood Creek, approximately 3.2 km south of Roaring River and along Roaring River, sec. 32-35, T30N R7W [Ono 15' quad], Shasta Co., CA. Rocks formerly were upper part of Chickabally Mudstone Member of Budden Canyon Formation (Murphy and others, 1964). Consists of gray mudstone containing fossil plants and foraminifers. Is 760 m thick. Overlies Huling Member; underlies Bald Hills Member (both of Budden Canyon Formation). Is Early Cretaceous age based on fossil evidence.
