Type section: on opposite side of Escabrosa Ridge from Abrigo Canyon, on north slope of Mount Martin, in SW/4 SE/4 sec. 7, T. 23 S., R. 24 E., [Bisbee quadrangle], Cochise Co., AZ (Ransome, 1904; Hayes and Landis, 1965).
Named from exposures in Abrigo Canyon, in southern part of Mule Mountains, 3 mi southwest of Bisbee, Cochise Co., AZ (Ransome, 1904).
