Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:
Type locality: Abercrombie Peak on ridge south of Dry Canyon, [in T. 9 S., R. 18 W.], Gold Hill district, southern edge of Gold Hill 15-min quadrangle [1955 ed.], Tooele Co., western UT, is underlain by this formation, hence the name (Nolan, 1930; see also Nolan's USGS Prof. Paper 177, 1935).
