Type locality: exposures along the Illinois Central RR, in secs. 5, 6, 7, 18, and 19, T. 11 S., R. 5 E., Harrisburg quadrangle, Pope Co., southeastern IL. Named from Abbott Station (Kosanke and others, 1960).
