Summary:

Pg. 37. Wymore shale. Basal member of Matfield formation of Chase group. Consists of olive to gray shale, some mudstone, and a zone of red shale near middle. Thickness about 20 feet or more in Nebraska and northern Kansas, but only about 9 feet in vicinity of Burden, Kansas. Underlies Kinney limestone and overlies Wreford limestone. Age is Permian (Big Blue).
Type locality: ravines on west side of creek, 2.5 mi east of south side of Wymore, southern Gage Co., southeastern NE, in E/2 sec. 27, T. 2 N., R. 4 E., about 0.25 mi north of where highway crosses Burlington and Union Pacific RRs. Named from town of Wymore.
