Summary:

Named as a member of Pinelog Formation. Named for Vineyard Mountain which forms southern abutment of Allatoona Dam in Allatoona Dam 7.5-min quad, Bartow Co., northwestern GA. Type section designated as nearly continuous section of rocks exposed from base of Allatoona Dam on southern side of Etowah River to western edge of quad. Consists of rocks previously mapped as quartzite with shale/phyllite/schist or as shale/phyllite/schist with quartzite of Cressler (see Crawford and Cressler, IN Cressler and others, 1979) and the same rocks to the east that Cressler mapped as Ocoee Supergroup. Age is Late Proterozoic to Early Cambrian.
