Type section, locality, area and/or origin of name:

Type section: nearly continuous section of rocks exposed from base of Allatoona Dam on southern side of Etowah River to western edge of Allatoona Dam 7.5-min quadrangle, Bartow Co., northwestern GA. Named from Vineyard Mountain which is the southern abutment of Allatoona Dam (Crawford and others, in press).
