Summary:

First published use as the upper member of the Frontier formation for exposures near the town of Upton, 7 mi east of Coalville, Summit Co, UT on the Uinta uplift. No type locality described. Is one of ten members assigned to the Frontier near Coalville. Correlates with a middle sandstone member of the Hilliard shale at Cumberland Gap, Lincoln Co, WY in the Greater Green River basin. Boundary for nomenclature change between Coalville and Cumberland Gap not stated. Overlies the newly named Judd shale member of the Frontier. Underlies the Henefer formation. Correlation chart. Cross sections. Consists of light yellowish- to bluish-gray, fine-grained, calcareous, well-bedded sandstone 450 ft thick near Coalville. Near Grass Valley and Carruth Canyon to the west, the member forms a conspicuous hogback. Fossils. Of early Niobrara, late Coniacian, Late Cretaceous age.
