Uniontown Formation of Monongahela Group here revised in southwestern PA to include rocks previously called Uniontown coal, and Uniontown sandstone member or limestone member of Monongahela Formation. Name is retained because of its long established usage, but is redefined to describe a formation comprised of unnamed upper and lower members representing two sedimentary cycles. Includes strata from base of Uniontown coal bed to base of Waynesburg coal bed. Contains two persistent layers of thin-bedded sandstone and siltstone separated by limestone and a thin coal bed (long known as Little Waynesburg coal bed). Waynesburg coal bed, formerly included as uppermost bed in Monongahela Formation, is reassigned to base of overlying Waynesburg Formation (revised). Thickness is 55 to 70 ft. Overlies Pittsburgh Formation (revised). Age is Late Pennsylvanian. Report includes correlation chart.
