Summary:

Named for typical exposures in Turkey Creek Canyon in NE1/4 sec 15, T5S, R70W, Morrison quad, Jefferson Co, CO in the Southern Rocky Mountain region. No type locality designated. Forms subdued topography. Has two distinct facies; uppermost and perhaps youngest facies is a garnet-rich, banded granite gneiss. Garnets are dark red and vary in size from l m to 3 cm in diameter. Second facies is a distinct, white or light-gray weathering, sillimanitic, mica schist or gneiss, medium grained and medium-gray on a fresh surface; biotite is abundant. Contact of underlying Idledale Formation (new) Turkey Creek Canyon Formation, can be established within about 50 ft stratigraphically. Geologic map. Cross sections. Precambrian age.

Summary:

Is one of several units defined in a narrow belt along east-central Front Range, near Golden, Jefferson Co, CO in the Southern Rocky Mountain region. Of doubtful use elsewhere. Assumed direction of stratigraphic sequence is debatable. Belongs with pre-1,700 m.y. metamorphic complex, or of Precambrian X age.
