Summary:

Name Spruce Pine alaskite introduced in this report for extremely coarse-textured granite that outcrops around the town of Spruce Pine in Mitchell Co. and in smaller areas in Brushy Creek and Ingalls sections of Avery Co., NC. Contains a small amount of biotite locally. Feldspar crystals as much as 2 ft across are quite common. No age stated.

The usage of the name Spruce Pine Alaskite is abandoned and the name Spruce Pine Plutonic Suite is applied to a more inclusive unit previously defined by Rankin and others (1973) and called the Spruce Pine plutonic group. The new Suite includes the rocks of the abandoned Spruce Pine Alaskite.
