Summary:

Named as lower member (of 2) of Seabee formation of Colville group for Shale Wall Bluff. Name used in correlation chart by Tappan (1962). Type section designated as west bank of Nanushuk River at Camp W-June 25-47, Chandler River region, northern AK. Section extends 2.5 mi along river. Member extends as far south as 7 mi north of Tuktu Escarpment. Occurs in ridges. Is weak, incompetent bentonitic clay shale. Contains peculiar light-gray surficial shale "boils" produced as weathering phenomenon. Thickness is 1385 ft at type; here base cut by thrust fault. Unconformably overlies Ninuluk formation of Nanushuk group. Underlies Ayiyak member of Seabee formation. Report includes 7 columnar sections. Fossils from Shale Wall member are early Turonian age.
