Summary:

Type locality: roadcuts along Piuma Road NE/4 sec.21 T1S R17W, southwest of Saddle Peak, Santa Monica Mountains, Malibu Beach quad, Los Angeles Co, CA. Is lower member (of 3) of Topanga Canyon Formation. Recognized in east Malibu Beach 7.5' quad. Consists of sandstone, sandy siltstone, and basal conglomerate. Sandstone is thick-bedded to massive, medium- to coarse-grained, pebbly and fossiliferous. Is 220 m thick. Conformably overlies Piuma Member (new) (Sespe Formation); conformably underlies Fernwood Member (new) (Topanga Canyon Formation). Is middle Miocene age.
