Informally named the Rudd Branch beds in the Charleston, SC area. Consists of dusky-green to grayish-olive-green, fine-grained, silty quartz-phosphate sand. Unit occurs only in subsurface. Thickness is 3 meters. Overlies the Ashley Formation (basal contact marked by sparse, subrounded phosphate pebbles) and underlies the Raysor Formation. The Rudd Branch is of middle and late Miocene age.
