Summary:

Named for typical development along Rector Creek, small tributary to North Fork, Cottonwood Creek at Ono, Shasta Co, CA. Includes 20 to 400 ft of sandstone, conglomerate, and mudstone just above unconformity at base of Cretaceous section. Unit unconformably rests on igneous and metamorphic rocks of Klamath Mountains complex (new). Conformably underlies Ono formation (new), contact gradational. Age is Early Cretaceous based on fossils of NEOCRASPEDITES AGUILA Zone, lowest faunal assemblage of Horsetown Stage.

Summary:

Rector "formation" of Murphy (1956) is restricted to conglomerate lenses in contact with basement rocks of Klamath Mountains complex and renamed Rector Conglomerate Member of Budden Canyon Formation (new). Sandstones, mudstones, and pebbly mudstones formerly included in Rector "formation" are included in Ogo Member (new) (Budden Canyon Formation). Composed of same lithologic types present in local basement rocks. Maximum thickness is 200 ft. Reference section is in bed of Rector Creek, tributary to North Fork of Cottonwood Creek just south of Ono [sec.2 T30N R7W, Ono 15' quad, Shasta Co, CA].
